Cassiel

Mixed Breed · Male

Cassiel loves the contact with his people! Being close to them, snuggling up to them, experiencing safety, closeness, and love… this lets him breathe a sigh of relief. Okay, he also loves food, which isn’t surprising given how thin he was when he arrived with us. Cassiel means “God’s Protection,” and indeed, fate played a wondrous role in bringing him to us: Mirjam received an inquiry from Bosnia asking if she could take in a Kangal with deformed front legs. However, we now receive so many inquiries that we can’t help everyone as much as we would like. Nevertheless, Mirjam couldn’t get this little fellow out of her mind, so she inquired a few weeks later. This Kangal was “under shelter” somewhere, so to speak, leaving no chance for us to help him. But another HSH-Mix had come to the shelter: Cassiel. He lived freely in a village and was cared for by an old lady. However, the neighbors were afraid of Cassiel (who had done nothing but be “big”), so the dog catchers came and brought him to the shelter. And from there, he found his way to us. The old photo showed a young dog with big, scared eyes… By the way, we not only made Cassiel happy with his adoption, but also the old lady who wept with joy that he finally has a good home! Cassiel is no bore, but he can stand very still and be enchanted by his people, simply enjoying… and he can do this over a long period. But you can see that he’s a young dog who loves playing with his friends and letting off steam. Cassiel prefers female dogs, but with male dogs, he’s more unsure and tries to hide it by trying to be the “player.” We wish for Cassiel a new family that sees what a raw diamond they are getting. With loving guidance and support, he will continue to develop so wonderfully! Would you like to adopt Cassiel? The goal of our mediation is that your family is a place where the selected dog is loved and respected, and that everyone in the family is happy with the new family member. Therefore, we need some information from you via an interested parties questionnaire under your name. Help for Herdenschutzhunde e.V.

DE·Show original

About Cassiel

What life with Cassiel looks like

Cassiel is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Franken e.V. in Lauf.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cassiel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cassiel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Franken e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cassiel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cassiel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Franken e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cassiel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cassiel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Franken e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cassiel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
