Catalino

Mixed Breed · Male

That Catalino looks so cheerful and interested in his rehoming photos today, and immediately exudes genuine charisma, is solely due to the loving work of our partner shelter's animal welfare workers. In his past, Catalino had every reason to mistrust humans and no longer wanted to trust his surroundings at all… The handsome male dog turned up one day in a suburb and was reported to the police by neighbors, as he was attacking people who were disturbing him while searching for food, barking, and clearly feeling threatened by the slightest provocation. Fortunately, he was not immediately transported to the killing station but got the chance to move into the care of the animal shelter. It took a lot of work, time, and even more patience to make Catalino understand that he is no longer in danger and can trust his caregivers and take responsibility for his well-being. Today, our ray of hope has become an extremely eager and attached fellow who even plays pranks sometimes and gets along well with his four-legged friends. There will always be situations where Catalino reacts fearfully or submissively, for example, with loud noises or sudden movements, but his behavior now only shows traces of the state in which he was taken in. Catalino is a very agile and active dog who thoroughly enjoys long walks and would definitely fit in well with outdoor enthusiasts. Additionally, treats and food are his big hobbies, which, in connection with his cleverness, are likely to make the loving and gentle upbringing of this lively newcomer very pleasant. Catalino is now ready to start his new, good life as a full-fledged family member with full enthusiasm and we wish him that he never again feels like he is at a disadvantage or not getting enough.

DE·Show original

About Catalino

What life with Catalino looks like

Catalino is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Catalino, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Catalino?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Catalino on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Catalino if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Catalino already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Catalino isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Catalino and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
