Cavia-update 13 mei

Mixed Breed · Female

And in the past week, nearly all the holidaymakers went back home. Their owners had missed them, but of course they hadn't worried about their darlings either. And that wasn't necessary, of course, because they too enjoyed their well-deserved holiday! So it's now a good deal quieter at the shelter. At the moment we're making sure a handful of holiday guests have a top-notch holiday, we're taking very good care of our permanent residents, hard-to-place animals, guinea pigs who still have to wait before they can move, and of course also the super-cute pairs who don't quite fit the perfect picture. In recent months very few duos have been offered for rehoming, and the "just nice" pairs quickly go to a new owner via a waiting list with patient owners. That's wonderful! In addition, there is an enormous demand for young guinea pigs, preferably available right away. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) we can't help with that, because they are not often brought to us. We do have a lot of demand for taking on the last guinea pig after the death of its companion. It's very understandable, of course, that you don't want to let a guinea pig live alone for years when you've decided you no longer want new guinea pigs. We always place sows immediately in a group with other sows. Boars come to us gradually via the waiting list, to spread out the spaces they need and the castration costs that are needed in most cases. Because it's currently so quiet with pairs, we've taken in extra single males this weekend. They may not be immediately placed together with a new companion, but the presence of other guinea pigs around them often already does them good. Over the coming weeks we will have most of these darlings castrated in stages, so that after a while they can go and live with one or more little girlfriends. A few more guinea pig facts from this week in a row: In the first 9 days of May, 15 guinea pigs were surrendered. 11 of these guinea pigs came alone. 9 of them were brought in because their companion had died and their owners no longer wanted new guinea pigs, but did want them to have a new companion. The other 4 guinea pigs were 2 pairs. Of these guinea pigs, 6 were sows and 9 were boars. More guinea pig news next week. Also check out our daily Nieuwsflits on YOUTUBE!

Frequently asked

Adopting Cavia-update 13 mei, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cavia-update 13 mei?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Caviaplein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cavia-update 13 mei on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cavia-update 13 mei if I live in another country?
Sometimes. Whether a animal can move between countries depends on the species and the rules in both countries, and some species need permits or have restrictions. Ask Caviaplein what paperwork and transport they require, and check the import rules of your country before you commit.
Is Cavia-update 13 mei already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
What a animal comes with (vet checks, vaccinations, identification, paperwork) varies by shelter and species. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask Caviaplein directly what is included and what Cavia-update 13 mei still needs.
What happens if Cavia-update 13 mei isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Caviaplein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cavia-update 13 mei and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
