Chapo

Shar Pei · Male · Adult · 7 years

Chappo is a dog that has a lot of shar pei in him. His previous owner abandoned him at a dog hotel and there was no contact with him, and poor Chappo ended up at the shelter. He is a dog that lives a bit in his own world. On walks and in the run-out area, he sniffs a lot, and a human is more of an addition to the environment. When he has treats, he willingly comes, but he doesn't really respond to his name and any calls. He can do "sit" and "give paw" nicely. Walks with him are pleasant, Chappo walks on a loose leash, busy exploring new areas. He sometimes pulls on other dogs he meets on walks and gets a bit excited, and sometimes he just ignores them - it's not clear what it depends on. In direct contact, his attitude towards dogs is negative. He also sniffs a lot in rooms, and when he's done, he comes to the person on the couch and then doesn't mind a good scratch behind the ear or on the butt.

PL·Show original

Umie ładnie zrobić „siad” i „daj łapę”.

About Chapo

What life with Chapo looks like

Chapo is a medium-sized adult shar pei dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chapo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chapo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chapo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chapo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chapo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chapo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chapo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
