Adopt Chara

Female

Chara was rescued by an animal lover who asked us to help find her a home as she was showing a little too much interest in the chickens in the next door property to where she was living and was getting herself into trouble…. This little dog has brought a lot of smiles and love to the sanctuary! She is just so loving and sweet! Everyone that visits her area ends up sitting on the floor to cuddle her (and the lucky ones get a free nose clean thrown in!) Chara is a little bit on the heavy side at the moment so will need to lose a bit of weight. She looks like she might be a beagle cross which would explain the barrel chest, but she still could do with losing a few kilos. Chara has been child tested and dog tested and passed both with flying colours. This lovely dog will really be a wonderful addition to any family. She’s delightful! About Chara

What life with Chara looks like

Chara is a small adult dog waiting at SPDC Cyprus in Limassol.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇾Adopting from Cyprus

Cypriot rescues focus heavily on cross-border placements (the island has more strays than local adopters). Animals are fully vetted before flying. The adopter pays the transport, while the shelter coordinates vaccinations, chipping, and the passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPDC Cyprus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPDC Cyprus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPDC Cyprus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
