Adopt Charles

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 2 months

Country of origin: Hungary The charming Charles was handed over to Menhely by the mayor's office of Lajosmizse on April 10, 2026, along with his five siblings—Caramel, Chester, Chica, Cookie, Campino—and their mother Claire, as no one was caring for the dog family. Yet again, the all-too-familiar story of unwanted puppies... cowardly dumped, out of sight and out of mind, regardless of what might happen to them. They were lucky in their misfortune and found refuge at animal shelter Kecskemét. The dog family is already keeping an eye out for their humans. The little ones will soon be ready to leave the nest, and all are searching for a responsible “forever home” where they can leave their sad past behind and look only toward a bright future. Our fingers are firmly crossed! Claire and her puppies do not need to be rehomed together. Claire can raise her babies safely at the animal shelter, and she has been—and continues to be—a fantastic and loving dog mom who cares devotedly for her pups. And the siblings have the good fortune to grow up with maternal love, even though an animal shelter isn't the ideal place for that. Every day, the puppies explore their limited surroundings a bit more. They are typically playful, curious, friendly, and ready for any mischief—even if new situations sometimes impress or unsettle them, which is understandable since there’s still so much for them to experience. But their childlike curiosity quickly wins out. They’re completely green behind the ears, and their new humans should enjoy patiently and lovingly teaching them, step by step, everything a young four-legged friend needs to know for life as a family dog. Likewise, their new owners should be aware that puppyhood brings not only great joy but also plenty of work and responsibility, so they can grow into wonderful, loyal companions. They certainly bring excellent potential—but they also need security and a supportive framework in which to blossom and develop. They get along well with their fellow animals and love playing and romping together. For our adorable rascals, we’re looking for a loving home where, alongside lots of fun, play, and action, they’ll enjoy long, varied walks; be exercised appropriately for their age and breed; receive sufficient rest periods; and get plenty of cuddles and love. Add puppy/dog training classes, full integration into family life, and these pups can finally take off and hopefully enjoy a long and happy life. A wonderful dog family is looking for their people! Currently, all are still too young for neutering/spaying, which must be arranged by the new owners once they’re old enough. Final height (37–47 cm) and weight (8–15 kg) are only estimates. Charles measured 20 cm and weighed 3.1 kg on April 29, 2026. The siblings can travel from approximately the end of June 2026 onward, once they’ve found a forever home or a foster home.

About Charles

What life with Charles looks like

Charles is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Charles, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Charles?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Charles on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Charles if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Charles already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Charles isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Charles and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
