adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Charleston has found a home! His story: The sweet Charleston with the black, fluffy fur and cream-colored patches belongs to a special litter of puppies: the "Gang Seven." He is one of seven siblings who were abandoned with their mother. Fortunately, they were found by our animal welfare workers before anything bad could happen. The mother has already found a loving home with a foster family – now Charleston and his siblings are waiting for their chance. Charleston shows himself to be a friendly, curious, and brave puppy. Despite being only about 4 months old, he seems very balanced and open to everything new. He loves to explore the world, is playful, and friendly to his fellow animals. He hasn't known life in a safe home yet, but with his open nature, he brings the best prerequisites to settle in quickly. Charleston gets along well with other dogs. How he reacts to cats has not yet been tested. Visually, Charleston is a real looker: His loyal, dark eyes make hearts skip a beat. He looks especially charming with his sweet floppy ears and the playful neck scarves he proudly wears. Currently, he is about 37 cm tall and will grow to be about medium-sized – his mother has a shoulder height of 40 cm. We cannot rule out that a mix of a herding breed might be in Charleston. The mother is likely a herding breed mix. Charleston is ready for his own home. His new people should inform themselves about the character of herding breeds beforehand. They need a competent and reliable handler and should be allowed to follow their drive through activities like fetch and hunt games, agility, or similar, to avoid underexertion and related problems. Positive working dog training classes can help – even during puberty, when the little ones like to question everything they've learned. Charleston travels microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated with an EU pet passport to his new home. Neutered, he is still not at that age. Thank you, Ker W., for giving Charleston this beautiful name. As of: 20.09.

Vielen Dank an Ker W., du hast Charleston diesen schönen Namen gegeben. Stand: 20.09.2025

About Charleston

What life with Charleston looks like

Charleston is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Charleston, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Charleston?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Charleston on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Charleston if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Charleston already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Charleston isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Charleston and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
