Charlie

Unknown · Senior · 10 years

Charlie is a Molosser mix who arrived at the shelter as big as a Caterpillar—a force of nature who swept everyone off their feet with his boundless energy and tenacity. At first, he was used to living exclusively in his home garden, and it took him quite some time to find his balance in the daily routine of the shelter. Gradually, he first learned that at the other end of the leash there’s someone he can turn to and trust. Charlie loves long walks, running freely in the yard, but he also enjoys stopping to cuddle with the people he trusts more and more each day. Charlie is an affectionate, strong, dynamic, and spirited dog—but despite his size, he has his vulnerabilities and needs a guide who can help him manage those moments when his physical strength takes over. He deserves a second chance with a new family who’s eager to get to know him and discover his unique personality. CHARLIE – Shelter in Calderara di Reno (BO) GENDER: MALE SIZE: LARGE DATE OF BIRTH: 01/10/2016 BREED: MOLOSSER MIX 📍 Available for adoption in Bologna, its province, and throughout Emilia Romagna. Requests from outside the region will be considered ONLY if applicants are willing to complete a getting-to-know-you process at the shelter.

IT·Show original

About Charlie

What life with Charlie looks like

Charlie is a senior dog waiting at Fuori Le Zampe ODV in Bologna.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Charlie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Charlie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fuori Le Zampe ODV handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Charlie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Charlie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fuori Le Zampe ODV will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Charlie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Charlie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fuori Le Zampe ODV early rather than rehoming privately; they know Charlie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
