Adopt Charlie

Male · Adult · 6 years

Charlie is a lovely 30kg, sighthound mix that has had a hard start in life and deserves to find a loving forever home. His first and original family abandoned him, as he was bullied by their resident dog. This caused him to be fearful of some dogs and led to him spending a very long time in kennels at the previous rescue. Charlie was then adopted from the rescue. However, they decided to return him. They tried to reach out to the rescue where he originally came from, but they wouldn’t have him back, which tragically led to them booking him in for euthanasia. We found out about him by a coincidence and intervened before this could happen. We felt heartbroken when we heard his story and the banal reason why his life was at risk. Charlie is an absolute stunner, he can do so many tricks, he walks very well on the lead. However, due to his past, he is anxious when he is overcrowded by people and dogs. He has had bad luck after bad luck, leading him to never be allowed to settle and be accepted and supported. He was always the victim and it is us humans that have failed him every time. We know that this bad luck cycle has to end and we need your help to achieve it. Can you give Charlie the loving home he deserves? Charlie is neutered and vaccinated.

About Charlie

What life with Charlie looks like

Charlie is a large adult dog waiting at Strays Without Borders in Skopje.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇲🇰Adopting from North Macedonia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Charlie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Charlie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Strays Without Borders handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Charlie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Charlie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Strays Without Borders will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Charlie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Charlie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Strays Without Borders early rather than rehoming privately; they know Charlie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
