Charly

Male · Young · 2 years

After an exhausting summer 2024, during which almost every day abandoned dogs and cats were found and help was requested for them, both the kennels and our private foster homes are still overcrowded. But our partners could naturally not turn away any of the finders with the animals or deny them help. No one had the heart to do so, and so we continue to improvise at every corner, placing cats in individual cages when space is limited. Charly was found in a colony in Porto Cervo. Because he was very congested and one eye was already severely affected, our partner Loredana took him into her care. Now, the little panther is much better, but unfortunately, his eye could not be saved. The little pirate now needs loving people who want to take him into their family. Therefore, we wish that the little one can travel to Germany as soon as possible to find his dream home here. On March 1, 2025, Charly was able to travel to Germany and arrived at his foster home in Hamburg. In November 2025, Charly still needed further veterinary treatment after his arrival. Since fluid kept accumulating under the sealed eyelids of his right eye, the seal was finally released in an operation. Fortunately, it was determined that the eye is functional, though limited. Charly quickly recovered from the minor procedure, but the follow-up treatment for his eye required more time. With his foster mom, Charly is very clingy. He likes to lie over her shoulder or keep her company on the desk while she works on the computer. In July, the little Bergamo joined the foster home, and Charly tenderly cared for the little one. Since then, the two have become best friends. Charly also gets along very well with Cielo, the third tomcat in the foster home. They all play together and mostly snuggle up on the sofa or bed. If you would like to give Charly (preferably together with Bergamo or Cielo) a beautiful home, we look forward to your message. He will not be placed in single-cat households. Generally, we prefer homes that are suitable for apartment living with a cat-safe netted balcony or secure terrace for our cats.

About Charly

What life with Charly looks like

Charly is a young adult cat waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Charly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Charly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Charly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Charly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Charly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Charly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Charly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
