Charly

Mixed Breed · Male

We are lovingly seeking a new home for our 5-year-old male Degu, Charly. We are sadly seeking a new home for our 5-year-old male Degu, Charly. Until recently, Charly lived with his brother. The two were a well-coordinated team, cuddled a lot, always sought each other's company, and slept closely together. Unfortunately, his brother recently passed away. Since degus are very social animals and should not be kept alone, we are looking for a home for Charly where he can expect to meet other degus or where a socialization is possible soon. Charly is a curious but rather quiet Degu. He likes to run in his wheel and enjoys burying his nuts. He is initially a bit reserved with people. Charly has a dental malocclusion that has been examined by a veterinarian. He copes very well with it and eats herbs and fresh food without any problems. He also has a small spot on his back with less fur. This is due to his brother grooming him particularly intensively during mutual grooming. The spot has been examined by a veterinarian and is completely harmless - the fur is already slowly growing back.We are happy to provide detailed information about his special features and previous veterinary care. Charly will only be placed in responsible hands and only with a guardianship/protection contract. Location: 23747 Dahme. A trip of up to 50 kilometers is possible by arrangement. We wish for Charly a loving home where he can enjoy the company of other degus again and spend his twilight years in good company. If you are interested or have questions, please send us a message.

About Charly

What life with Charly looks like

Charly is a large adult mixed breed animal waiting at Deguhilfe Süd e.V. in Obermichelbach.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Charly far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Charly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Charly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Deguhilfe Süd e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Charly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Charly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Deguhilfe Süd e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Charly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Charly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Deguhilfe Süd e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Charly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
