Can live with: Older Children 12+ Meet Cheddar – a gentle soul looking for a peaceful place to call home 🧑🐾 Cheddar arrived at RSPCA Bluebell Ridge from a large multi-cat household after being brought into our care by the RSPCA Inspectorate Team when his owner was no longer able to care for all of the cats. While some cats make their presence known immediately, Cheddar is the kind of boy who quietly waits for you to discover just how special he is. This sweet and sensitive lad can be a little shy when meeting new people, but behind those cautious eyes is a truly lovely cat with so much potential to blossom in the right home. Cheddar is looking for a calm, understanding family who will give him the time and patience he needs to settle in and build his confidence at his own pace. A busy household wouldn’t be his cup of tea. Instead, Cheddar dreams of a peaceful home where he can relax, feel secure, and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. He could happily live with sensible children aged 15 years and over who understand that sometimes the best friendships take a little time to grow. Having previously lived with other cats, Cheddar is used to sharing his space. However, we feel he would really benefit from being the only cat in his new home. After living amongst many feline companions, he deserves the chance to enjoy all the attention, cosy beds, treats, and fuss for himself without having to compete for resources or share the spotlight. With patience, kindness, and plenty of love, we believe Cheddar will reward his new family with a bond that is truly special. Watching a shy cat learn to trust and flourish is one of life’s greatest joys, and Cheddar is ready for someone to give him that chance. If you have a quiet home and a big heart, Cheddar could be the perfect companion you’ve been waiting for. 🧑 Scroll through the gallery of images above or click to open

About Cheddar

What life with Cheddar looks like

Cheddar is a large senior mixed breed animal waiting at RSPCA Brighton and the Heart of Sussex in United Kingdom.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Cheddar far better than any listing can convey β€” ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cheddar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cheddar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Brighton and the Heart of Sussex handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cheddar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cheddar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” RSPCA Brighton and the Heart of Sussex will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cheddar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cheddar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Brighton and the Heart of Sussex early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cheddar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
