Chepeque

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Chepque came to us after suffering severe abuse at the hands of his previous owner. When he first arrived at the refuge, he was completely shut down, spending his time hiding in his basket. It’s incredibly sad to think that such a little boy experienced so much unkindness. Naturally, Chepque is wary of people and needs a little time to get to know you. He may bark when you first meet him, this is simply his defence mechanism and his way of saying he feels unsure. With patience and understanding, you quickly see that there is so much more to him. Our dog trainer has been working closely with Chepque, and he has already made wonderful progress. He’s slowly coming out of his shell and learning that he can trust again. He is still a work in progress and will need a kind, quiet home where his training and confidence-building can continue. Chepque is sociable with other dogs and absolutely loves his walks. When you watch him from a distance, you really see his true character shining through , a lovely little dog who just needs someone to believe in him.

About Chepeque

What life with Chepeque looks like

Chepeque is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Live PAWS Tenerife in Spain.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chepeque, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chepeque?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Live PAWS Tenerife handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chepeque on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chepeque if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Live PAWS Tenerife will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chepeque already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chepeque isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Live PAWS Tenerife early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chepeque and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
