Adopt Cherry

Podenco · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Description Our Spanish animal welfare workers report: The playful Cherry is a true cat connoisseur!Cherry was found as a small puppy wandering alone. The people who found him took him in and he lived on a parcel with another dog. There he did well until a bite incident occurred with the other dog, which Cherry did not deserve. The owner brought Cherry directly to the vet and then to the animal shelter to prevent Cherry from being bitten again. The young Podenco male dog is a wonderful friend and has quickly won the hearts of people with his friendly and playful nature. Therefore, it was a good decision not to return Cherry to the parcel and instead to search for a proper family that values him for what he is: a great playful boy!Cherry gets along particularly well with cats and would surely be happy in the new home with a cat-friendly playmate or playmates. He also behaves very well on the leash and in the car, simply looking forward to doing something with you. All the best, dear Cherry!! Information on the Podenco Like most animals from abroad, Cherry will also need to get used to life in the new home, as he knows neither large crowds of people nor the loud city traffic from Spain. But we are optimistic that he will adapt quickly. We wish for him a more pleasant home in a more rural environment, for example on the outskirts of the city, where he can enjoy nature with his people. We are looking for people who are willing to patiently and affectionately acclimate this wonderful companion to life and the new home.

About Cherry

What life with Cherry looks like

Cherry is a large puppy/kitten podenco dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cherry, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cherry?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cherry on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cherry if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cherry already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cherry isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cherry and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
