Adopt CHESTER

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Kitten · 3 months

CHESTER is a cautious adult cat who needs plenty of time to feel safe in new environments. He needs a cat-friendly and calm home that allows him to feel secure at his own pace. CHESTER really enjoys going outside, so he needs a quiet home with rural and safe outdoor opportunities, and a home without children. This is what the foster home says about CHESTER: I almost don't see any signs of fear in him anymore. He no longer scratches me when I present my hand to him, and visitors who come to visit greet him after a while. He can "swat" with his paw if they touch him too early or too abruptly, but he has almost stopped scratching. He used to run away and hide when guests came over. He is still warm, but more brave and curious. He likes to be brushed and combed, and to be scratched along his back, but he can become overstimulated easily. Then he just moves a little further away instead of scratching. He allows himself to be lifted and handled if he has a view and I am calm. They also trim his claws. He likes (apparently) to solve challenges, both in the form of food puzzles and clicker training. In 3 months, he has learned almost 4 hand signals/words! The last few weeks he has been much outside. He comes when I call him, but I have to carry him inside. He prefers to stay outside. Otherwise, he is proper, nicely soft to handle, curious, and quite vocal. He has a wide range of sounds and tones to meow with. He has nothing against me playing music, or practicing singing, or using noisy kitchen appliances. He shows interest when I do housework or yoga, and he comes to inspect (smell) when I am arranging my plants. He doesn't eat the plants. It's a slow process, but he is really starting to understand that people are not scary or out to get him.

About CHESTER

What life with CHESTER looks like

CHESTER is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Dyrebeskyttelsen Bergen in Bergen.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇳🇴Adopting from Norway

Norwegian rescues require thorough background checks. Animals leave with a Nordic pet passport and full vetting. Norway is outside the EU so import rules differ slightly — TRACES applies.

Frequently asked

Adopting CHESTER, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about CHESTER?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dyrebeskyttelsen Bergen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw CHESTER on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt CHESTER if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dyrebeskyttelsen Bergen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is CHESTER already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if CHESTER isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dyrebeskyttelsen Bergen early rather than rehoming privately; they know CHESTER and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NO). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
