Het verhaal van Chester Zoals wel meer podenco’s liep Chester op jonge leeftijd moederziel alleen rond op straat in Zuid-Spanje. Was hij verdwaald, of doelbewust gedumpt? We weten het niet. Chester is in ieder geval van de straat gehaald en kwam terecht in een perrera, een gemeentelijk asiel dat voor veel honden een triest eindstation betekent. Gelukkig voor Chester komen er regelmatig vrijwilligers naar dit asiel. Zij kijken welke honden een kans op adoptie hebben in het buitenland. En zij zagen Chester daar zitten 🙏 Deze vrijwilligers gaan dan op zoek naar een shelter (vaak een particulier asiel) met goede contacten in het buitenland. Sandy en John, de Vlaamse beheerders van Galgo’s Rescue Almeria, kregen de vraag of zij zich wilden inzetten voor Chester. Hun antwoord was een luid en duidelijk JA! En zo mocht deze geluksvogel naar de volgende tussenstop op weg naar een lang en gelukkig leven. Hij wordt nu liefdevol verzorgd en kan heerlijk spelen met andere podenco’s in zijn kennel. Stichting Wereldhonden werkt al jaren samen met GRA. Sandy en John werken keihard om vooral galgo’s en podencos te helpen. Deze zachtaardige jachthonden worden in Spanje wreed behandeld en na het jachtseizoen vaak gedumpt. Terwijl het geweldige huisgenoten zijn… maar zo zien ze dat niet in Spanje. Bij GRA zien ze Chester ontspannen nu hij veilig is. Wat een verschil! Chester is een vrolijke, sociale jongen van 18 maanden die helemaal aan het openbloeien is. Hij speelt graag, geniet van aandacht, loopt prima mee aan de lijn en luistert goed. Als hij iets nieuws ziet wat hij nog niet kent, is hij eventjes voorzichtig. Maar hij komt dan al gauw weer uit zijn schulp voor een aai of een knuffel. Chester is inmiddels klaar voor zijn nieuwe leven: hij is gevaccineerd, gechipt, heeft een Europees paspoort, is gecastreerd en bovenal: hij is negatief getest op de meest voorkomende Mediterrane ziektes.
