Chico

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 10 months

Chico was born around October 1, 2025 and is now about 55 cm tall. His start in life was unfortunately far from easy. Chico had a serious accident and had to undergo surgery on his hind leg at a veterinary clinic. After the operation, he came to our shelter where we could continue to care for him. What initially looked like a very difficult injury has developed quite well. Chico's leg has fully healed and he can use it well. However, it is noticeable that it was once severely injured: due to the old fracture and changes in the hip joint, his movement will be permanently limited to some extent. Chico can walk and move independently, but he will not be a dog for hours of hiking or extensive sports activities. His veterinarian assesses his current quality of life as good. Chico currently shows no obvious pain and does not require further surgery. However, due to the changes in the hip joint, there is an increased risk that arthritis will develop over the course of his life. Whether and when this will actually cause him discomfort cannot be predicted today. If it becomes necessary at some point, such complaints can usually be well accompanied by adapted movement, weight control, physiotherapy and possibly medication. And now about what makes Chico much more important than his X-rays: Chico is simply a really great dog. He is friendly, cheerful and very people-oriented. He enjoys attention, likes to be with his people and meets them openly and lovingly. He also shows himself to be compatible with other dogs. Despite everything he has experienced, Chico has not lost his joie de vivre. We wish for him people who do not look at what Chico may not be able to do, but at what he can and who he is. Chico does not need a sporty home. He needs people who enable him to have a beautiful, normal dog life and respect his physical limits. Regular, moderate exercise, a healthy weight and a home where he does not have to constantly keep up would be ideal for him. A ground-level home or as few stairs as possible would certainly be an advantage. Long hikes are not necessary, but with Chico you get a young, cheerful and incredibly lovable companion who, despite his special story, simply wants one thing: to be with his people and enjoy his life. For Chico, we are looking for people who consciously choose him and are willing to lovingly accompany him even when his leg may need more attention in old age. Therefore, anyone who wants to get to know Chico should not look at his X-rays first, but meet him himself. Because Chico is so much more than the injury he once had. They are all vaccinated, chipped and have an EU passport. They are checked for age-appropriate Mediterranean diseases. See the information on our homepage. Every dog placed makes room for one of those dogs who have to live their lives starving and emaciated.

AUFENTHALTSORT

About Chico

What life with Chico looks like

Chico is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. in Greece.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Frequently asked

Adopting Chico, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chico?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chico on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chico if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chico already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chico isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chico and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
