Chicolino

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 4 years

Help! I need somebody... Not the Beatles, but a handsome Beagle named Chicolino is calling for help. His unhappy story began about 4 years ago in Hersbruck. Chicolino was bought as a young dog by a man addicted to alcohol, who could never give him structure. Left more or less to his own devices, he was at the mercy of his owner's mood swings. One moment overflowing affection - another, ungrounded, fickle rejection. Chicolino had little social contact, no play with other animals, sometimes undefined commands and much more. All of this shook his little dog soul - he simply lacked the necessary support and clear instructions. When his owner died, he was given to us by a relative. With great empathy, we are now trying to give this little man back his feet, so to speak. Step by step, he is finding his way into a happy dog life. Currently, he is attending a professional "dog boarding school". The company of other dogs and daily training are important for him to find his place in a family that gives him a real home. Beagles are somewhat "independent" characters that require a firm primary caregiver who can lovingly, but consistently guide them. Please support us and Chicolino with a small donation, because the monthly "boarding costs" are very, very high. Our wish for the new year is that Chicolino finds people who will say to him: Come my dog, let's go home. This lovely guy would answer: Nothing more than that, I'll try - shake hands!! I decide when, where, how and with whom! Yes, that's Chicolino. A Beagle boy straight out of a picture book. Unfortunately, in his past, the necessary guidance and consistency were not applied to enable a harmonious coexistence. As there was no guidance, he took it upon himself - breed-specifically. With charm and wit, he gets around boundaries and then occasionally exceeds them - out of insecurity. With the necessary affection and guidance, he shows himself to be very willing to learn and very skilled. Joyfully performs basic commands and executes a perfectly formed hind leg pirouette - unsolicited - as the icing on the cake. Chicolino loves walks, travels calmly in the car - but does not like to be left alone, as he had to do this too often and for too long in the past. Cats cannot relax in his presence. A house with a fenced garden is a condition. A confident dog friend, whom he can orientate to, could be an advantage. Since Chicolino will take up a lot of time, he is not a dog for families with children. In the right environment, the added "pounds" will disappear on their own. We are looking for this charming puppy people with experience, understanding and the necessary loving consistency, so that he can gain confidence through success. People who are ready to work with him.

Help! I need somebody ...

About Chicolino

What life with Chicolino looks like

Chicolino is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Franken e.V. in Lauf.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chicolino, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chicolino?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Franken e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chicolino on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chicolino if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Franken e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chicolino already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chicolino isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Franken e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chicolino and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
