Adopt Chispa

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

Chispa was born, approximately, in April 2016. She and LOLA were picked up from a warehouse in an industrial park where they lived a miserable life. Condemned to a very small cage, without veterinary attention and with barely any food or water. Today, life has put them in our hands so we can give them a second chance. A colleague told us that they belonged to a man who no longer wanted them and preferred to confine them in a small 2x2 meter cage in an industrial park, without treatment and almost without food or water instead of finding them a new home. Today, they have finally been entrusted to our animal shelter and we will take care of them as they deserve and find them a new home where they will be a member of the family. An animal is a responsibility that many people still do not understand, but we will try to change their lives and continue offering new opportunities to the animals we can help. Chispa is of medium size. Despite her not-so-easy life, she does not hold grudges against people and is the most grateful and affectionate, she loves being petted. With other dogs, she is sociable. Chispa is positive for Leishmania, already on treatment. She is provided with a microchip, a passport, up-to-date vaccinations, and a negative test for Anaplasma, Ehrlichia, and Heartworm. Additionally, she is spayed.

About Chispa

What life with Chispa looks like

Chispa is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at El Refugio Escuela Marlene in Seville.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chispa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chispa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. El Refugio Escuela Marlene handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chispa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chispa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — El Refugio Escuela Marlene will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chispa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chispa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with El Refugio Escuela Marlene early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chispa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
