Chloe

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Chloe, a female dog, born around November 2024, with a shoulder height of approximately 50 cm and a weight of around 10.2 kg (12-13 kg would be better), is looking for a new home starting in October. Chloe is a gentle, loving, and cautious dog who approaches new people and situations with some reserve at first. She needs time to build trust, but gradually warms up and shows more of her lovable side. This cautious nature makes her a dog that will probably form a special bond with her humans once she feels safe. 🤍 The nearly two-year-old Chloe is compatible with other dogs and feels comfortable in their company. What she lacks is the experience of what life as a family member in a home of her own can be like. Therefore, moving to a new home will initially be a big change for Chloe. The many new stimuli, sounds, smells, and routines can overwhelm her at first. She should not be overwhelmed with expectations, but given the opportunity to arrive at her own pace. With patience, security, and small steps together, she can gradually learn that her new home is a safe place. Chloe can also gain some weight: she is currently very slim and could gain 2-3 kg. We are looking for people with a calm, patient heart who will give her the time she needs and look forward to watching her development. 🐾 Chloe can move to her new home starting in October. 🏡 We do not mediate in very urban living situations or in families with young children. Please only submit an adoption request if the takeover is possible at the time mentioned in the text & you have already discussed the adoption of a new family member with your family (if necessary, other involved persons such as employer, landlord, interim care). Please note that the dogs described here are currently in their large-scale care facility or in the animal shelter in a limited, safe environment and have little contact with other people or environmental stimuli outside the property. The descriptions are based on the behavior in this familiar environment. Especially puppies and young dogs are still in the development of their character. For a successful settling in a new home, they need time, patience, and loving guidance to get used to the new environment and the various stimuli and grow into confident dogs.

About Chloe

What life with Chloe looks like

Chloe is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chloe, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chloe?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chloe on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chloe if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chloe already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chloe isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chloe and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
