CHOCO

Mixed Breed · Male

Choco's Journey: Overcoming Fear and Seeking a Forever Home Choco has faced a challenging start in life, arriving at the shelter several months ago alongside his companions, Nieve and Turron. He bears the marks of his difficult past, carrying both visible physical scars and the less obvious mental ones. The trauma he has experienced has left him very timid; Choco is too frightened to leave his cage and has yet to muster the courage to accept treats from the volunteers who sit patiently with him. Although he will approach for treats, any sudden movements cause him to retreat, a clear sign of his ongoing fear. Choco is, at heart, a gentle soul who needs someone willing to invest time and patience to help him learn that not all humans are unkind. With the right care and affection, Choco can begin to heal and trust again. Because Choco never leaves his cage out of fear, he is often overlooked for adoption. Yet, finding a home outside the shelter is exactly what he needs to regain his confidence. With a loving owner, Choco would have the chance to leave his small concrete kennel, go for walks, and gradually allow his true personality to shine through. Choco has tested positive for Leishmania

About CHOCO

What life with CHOCO looks like

CHOCO is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Murcia) in Lips Rescue.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting CHOCO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about CHOCO?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Murcia) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw CHOCO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt CHOCO if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Murcia) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is CHOCO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if CHOCO isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Murcia) early rather than rehoming privately; they know CHOCO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
