adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Chucho has found a home! His story: Our cute Sunnyboy Chucho is one of those dogs who immediately capture your heart. He was born in October 2024 in Romania and spent his first months of life in a Romanian foster home without his mother, but together with his three siblings. Since recently, he has been living in Switzerland and shows every day what a loving and eager-to-learn young dog he is. Chucho is an active, incredibly intelligent, and sensitive young dog who learns quickly and builds a close bond with his trusted people. Especially with the woman in the Swiss foster home, he has quickly gained trust. With men, he seems to need a bit more time, but with patience and calm, he can also be won over. He loves to cuddle, but also shows typical setter behavior: he guards, observes, thinks – and he needs both mental and physical stimulation. Chucho was house-trained within a day, practiced on the leash, and already knows some basic commands. Doggy encounters outside are still new to him – here he shows insecurity and his lack of experience is noticeable. With calm guidance and positive experiences, however, this will also become routine. Sensitive moments with Chucho require clarity. Overall, he is approachable, curious, and cuddly. At the same time, there are certain situations where he may react defensively when overwhelmed or insecure. These behavioral patterns are not uncommon for sensitive, young dogs with setter tendencies who are still learning to properly interpret stimuli. Therefore, it is important: Chucho needs clear guidance, confident trusted people, and a consistent, but positive, non-violent, and experienced dog-friendly upbringing. In the right environment and with the necessary security, he will continue to develop positively. Chucho wishes for people who give him security, structure, and loving but clear guidance. Ideally, people who already have experience with setters or are willing to learn about their special characteristics. A home with space – preferably with a garden – and the willingness to invest time and energy in his development are prerequisites. Children should already be old enough to show a respectful attitude towards shelter dogs. Chucho is vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas, dewormed, and has an EU pet passport. He will be rehomed for an adoption fee of 500 Euros. The wonderful youngster is already looking forward to your visits and can be adopted after a positive assessment. Are you ready for an adventure together? We thank Melissa, the namesake, for choosing Chucho's name. As of: 24.05.

Stand: 24.05.2025

About Chucho

What life with Chucho looks like

Chucho is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chucho, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chucho?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chucho on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chucho if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chucho already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chucho isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chucho and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
