Mixed Breed · Male

Chulo ID No.: 1050041 Breed: mixed breed Age: approx. 10/2019 Sex: male shoulder height: approx. 34 cm neutered/Sterilisiert: Yes Location: Marbella (Spain) Inquiry form Chulo – a little ray of sunshine on his way back to life Chulo (*10/19, approx. 34 cm) was handed over to our partner shelter TripleA in Marbella under questionable circumstances—a man claimed he’d found him tied up by the highway, though we suspect his story is different. Whatever this little guy has been through, he’s held onto his joy for life. From the very first moment, he showed himself to be incredibly friendly, cheerful, and sociable. He approaches people openly, is affectionate with our team and volunteers, and interacts calmly and respectfully with other dogs as well. Particularly touching is his manner with insecure dogs: with his calm, balanced demeanor, he helps them gain confidence and come out of their shells. Chulo is a small dog, standing only about 34 cm at the shoulder—but with an even bigger heart. He loves being petted, enjoys every form of affection, and can even be bathed without any trouble. He especially enjoys having his hindquarters scratched—that’s when he really relaxes. He also loves playing with balls during off-leash time and happily chews on them. Currently, Chulo is undergoing treatment for leishmaniasis, a disease common in the Mediterranean region. His skin issues and low body weight are likely related to this condition. The treatment is already showing clear progress, and his condition improves day by day. His future family should be willing to continue his therapy—we will, of course, provide guidance and support throughout. Chulo has a very good appetite and absolutely adores food. Due to his past, he still gets overly excited about treats, so he’ll need a bit more training in this area. However, we’re confident this behavior will settle once he understands he’ll never go hungry again. He’s also very fond of children and already walks calmly alongside families at the animal shelter. With younger kids, supervision is still advisable when food is involved. Chulo is looking for a loving home that will care for him well, continue his treatment, and give him the time he needs to fully settle in. With the right care, he’ll blossom into a wonderful, fluffy companion. Chulo is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and holds an EU pet passport. For travel arrangements, he is prophylactically dewormed and treated for fleas. About Chulo

What life with Chulo looks like

Chulo is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Helfende Hände e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chulo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chulo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Helfende Hände e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chulo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chulo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Helfende Hände e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chulo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chulo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Helfende Hände e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chulo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
