Chunk

Male · Senior · 9 years

Chunk is looking for a calm and predictable home with loving and understanding adopters who can take him on sniffy adventures, who will take the time to help him settle in and give him all the love and care he deserves. He is a sweet boy who finds the world rather overwhelming at times, so could live with older secondary school children who will let him approach at his pace, if there is a quiet area in the home he can take himself off to the rest and relax, that would be the best. Chunk is a friendly boy but does like all of the space to himself so is looking to be the only pet in the home, he could have regular polite and friendly walking buddies to keep practicing his socialisation with other dogs. Chunk is smart cookie and has picked up a few skills already, he can be encouraged to engage in training in short, sweet sessions if a soft, smelly treat is on offer. He would like a home with a private, secure garden for him to have some quality off lead time pottering about in at his leisure. Chunk can settle nicely so could be left for up to 4 hours, any leaving time would need to be built up slowly once he has had time to settle into his new home. Chunk is currently on daily medication and will need to meet his adopters multiple times prior to going home so please bear all of this in mind when applying. Cute and fluffy boy Chunk is a 9 year old German Shepherd who is a dream to walk on a lead despite his size. Once he knows you he is a friendly guy, doing cute little hops when he is excited to see you, once he has built a bond he does like a gentle fuss, bum scratches are his favourite and he will sometimes put his paw in your lap for more. He does need you to keep checking in to make sure he is still comfortable with the attention. He hasn’t shown much interest with toys so far, but loves the paddling pool, he will happily amuse himself splishy splashing away. This beautiful floof is ready to find his new home.

About Chunk

What life with Chunk looks like

Chunk is a senior dog waiting at Dogs Trust Canterbury in Chestfield.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chunk, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chunk?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Canterbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chunk on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chunk if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Canterbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chunk already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chunk isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Canterbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chunk and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
