Churro

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Churro, a male dog, has been at the shelter since October 2026. He is estimated to be born in July 2026 and will likely grow to be between 40-59 cm tall and weigh 20-35 kg. He is due to be adopted on November 14th. You can watch the video to meet him. Churro had a difficult start in life, having been rescued from a euthanasia station. He is currently recovering from pneumonia in the shelter. Our adoption team has the most up-to-date information on his health. If you have any questions, please send us a message. Churro should not have to grow up in a shelter. We are urgently looking for a loving home or an experienced foster home for this little dog - a place where he can discover the world, build trust, and simply be a puppy. Anyone adopting a puppy should be aware of how demanding life with a young dog can be: as soon as they are house-trained, they often face the "wild puberty" - full of energy, uncertainty, and new challenges. The first years of life are an exciting journey that humans and dogs go through together - with ups and downs and plenty of learning moments. We hope that this dog will find people with patience, empathy, and perseverance - and with an understanding that shelter dogs often have a certain history. How they react to their new life in Germany can never be fully predicted. But one thing is certain: adopting instead of buying not only gives a second chance to an animal, but also actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by your side. In love yet? Send us a self-disclosure! Adoption If you are considering adoption, first read through the . All dogs are vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, flea-treated, and neutered before they are adopted (except for puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs over 1 year old are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, please send a message to our adoption team.

About Churro

What life with Churro looks like

Churro is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Churro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Churro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Churro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Churro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Churro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Churro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Churro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
