Ciastek

Male

CIASTEK—this is a dog with a sad story. If Ciaściek could talk, he’d probably say he stopped counting days long ago. Maybe he even stopped believing that anyone would ever come for him. He’s not the kind of dog who jumps at the bars, wagging his tail at every passerby. Quite the opposite—he can actually scare off strangers. He doesn’t ask for attention; he doesn’t try to be the sweetest, most likable, or easiest dog to love. Because he’s already known love—real, true, his one and only love. But that love faded, his human passed away... When he arrived at the shelter, he was just a shadow of his former self. He’d hide in the corner of his kennel, close his eyes, and pretend it wasn’t all really happening. He didn’t want to go out, didn’t want to meet new people—because those new people weren’t HIM. They weren’t his person. Time did its work. Slowly, hesitantly, he started taking steps beyond his kennel. He discovered that the grass still smelled familiar, that the wind still carried the scent of other dogs, that the sun still warmed his fur pleasantly. Walks—once impossible—became a tiny ray of light in his everyday life. But not everyone can join Ciaściek on this journey. He doesn’t trust right away. He needs someone who’ll understand that a heart once broken won’t heal overnight. Now Ciaściek waits. Too long. Another winter passes, another summer, another day when unfamiliar voices come and go, and he stays behind. Will the moment ever come when his name is spoken with tenderness, when the leash he knows only from shelter walks becomes a ticket to a whole new life? He needs a home—not just for a while, not just on trial, but forever. A home that’ll accept him exactly as he is. A home that won’t demand instant trust, but will patiently let him learn to trust humans again. Someone who’ll show him that waiting was worth it. Because Ciaściek is still waiting. Maybe he’s waiting just for you. ul. Ściegiennego 20325-116 Kielce This site uses cookies in accordance with your browser settings. Read more

CIASTEK- to psiak o smutnej historii. Teraz Ciastek czeka. Za długo. Mija kolejna zima, kolejne lato, kolejny dzień, w którym nieznajome głosy przychodzą i odchodzą, a on zostaje.

About Ciastek

What life with Ciastek looks like

Ciastek is a adult dog waiting at Schronisko Kielce in Kielce.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ciastek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ciastek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kielce handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ciastek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ciastek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kielce will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ciastek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ciastek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kielce early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ciastek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
