Adopt Burłaj

Male

Burłajek is a medium-sized dog of the amstaff type who arrived at our shelter from Biesak Street. Burłaj has shown aggression towards people from the start, initially behaving as if he had never been touched or petted, not knowing or understanding a leash, which he reacted to with great aggression. He is a typical dog individualist - he wants to be treated exactly as he wants - otherwise, an attack will follow. This is a dog with a really difficult character, and the new owner will have to deal with it and be aware of it. Working with Burci has been going on for quite some time, and there have been significant progress, several weeks alone were needed just to get him used to a leash - now we can take him for a walk. Unfortunately, problems still occur when putting on or taking off the leash. He has probably never worn a collar, and touching his neck is something completely unknown to him. Several caretakers have established a very good connection with him - Burłaj even pushes himself onto their knees and asks for petting - however, all of this also needs to be controlled to avoid overloading him with emotions, which he unfortunately has trouble with :(. The animal shelter is not a good place for him, barking dogs, a lot of strangers... Burci would best find a home with a yard without other animals. Absolutely not suitable for a home with children. Burłaj requires consistent and assertive handling - this is a type of dog that likes to dominate and clearly shows when something is not to its liking. The caretakers are still working with him, and the dog is making real progress. People interested in adopting him will definitely have to visit the animal shelter multiple times and gradually start going for walks with him. Burłaj is a good dog, only not socialized or severely mistreated... :(. He has already undergone neutering. We would like to warn all "experts" "give me this dog, I'll take him for a week and he'll learn", "my dogs like me and no dog has ever bitten me" sincerely thank you. We are looking for really responsible people with experience working with this type of dog, who want to work with the dog and truly care about him. Burłaj takes medication for his thyroid. our area Ściegiennego 20325-116 Kielce This page uses cookies according to your browser settings. This animal needs to be the only pet in the home.

A Burcio najlepiej odnalazł by się w domu z ogrodem bez innych zwierząt. About Burłaj

What life with Burłaj looks like

Burłaj is a adult dog waiting at Schronisko Kielce in Kielce.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Burłaj, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Burłaj?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kielce handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Burłaj on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Burłaj if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kielce will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Burłaj already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Burłaj isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kielce early rather than rehoming privately; they know Burłaj and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
