Adopt Čičak

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Čičak will be eight years old in the fall and arrived at the animal shelter two months ago. He did not come alone, but with his entire dog family. He came with his father, an 11-year-old dog who, by good fortune, has already found his home, and his two sisters, Poli and Meri. They ended up in the animal shelter after the death of their owner, the only person and life they had known. Unlike their father, who adapted more quickly, Čičak and his sisters are very shy dogs. Their entire lives have been spent isolated in a yard, and the world outside of that was completely unknown to them. Čičak has meanwhile learned to walk on a leash and now walks nicely, though he is still getting to know everything that most dogs consider everyday life. New people, sounds, traffic, and unfamiliar situations are still something for him to learn to understand and accept. What is particularly important to highlight is that Čičak has no aggressive reactions at all. When something is not to his liking or frightens him, he simply retreats and seeks safety. He is a gentle, quiet, and unobtrusive dog who needs time to gain confidence and feel secure. We believe that in a peaceful and patient home, with people who will not expect too much from him right away, Čičak could truly flourish. He does not seek much... just the opportunity to slowly discover how life can be and be beautiful. ❤️ Čičak will be eight years old in the fall and arrived at the animal shelter two months ago. About Čičak

What life with Čičak looks like

Čičak is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Azil Dubrovnik in Croatia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇷Adopting from Croatia

Croatian shelters include sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID in the adoption process. Several work with Italian and German rescue networks for placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Čičak, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Čičak?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Azil Dubrovnik handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Čičak on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Čičak if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Azil Dubrovnik will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Čičak already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Čičak isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Azil Dubrovnik early rather than rehoming privately; they know Čičak and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
