Cip

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

After a year, it was finally late October 2021 when a small group of our team set out for the joint project tour. The second stop on our work trip was Stintino, where our partners were eagerly awaiting us. Of course, we were delighted to see our "old acquaintances," but there were also some new arrivals we wanted to get to know. The two puppies, Ciop and Cip, were born to a shepherd, but the shepherd couldn't use them. Normally, shepherds, hunters, and farmers would "deal with" the unwanted puppies, but the two had the good fortune to be offered help by our partners to find a family. (People unfortunately don't come up with the idea to castrate their female dogs and also their male dogs to prevent uncontrolled breeding and thus a lot of suffering. Common phrases on this topic include "against nature," "not God's will," and "it costs money" …) At first, both were very shy, they had probably also not had good experiences. But gradually, they began to trust our partners, especially Ciop is already very relaxed. For Ciop and Cip, the rescue is of course only a temporary stop. We hope that they will soon be allowed to embark on their journey to Germany to find their forever home with loving people who can provide them with the security they need to fully trust. If you are looking for a furry family member and are aware that adoption brings not only great joy but also work and responsibility, we are very happy to hear from you.

About Cip

What life with Cip looks like

Cip is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cip, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cip?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cip on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cip if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cip already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cip isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cip and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
