Clyde

Unknown · 3 years

Clyde was initially afraid of men, we assume they did not handle him with gloves. We are gradually getting him used to the fact that he no longer needs to be afraid of anyone here. For this, the treats are very helpful, he loves his belly. He walks nicely, despite his large size, he is not the type that pulls on the leash. He quickly gets into a rhythm with his walker. Stubborn, it is clear that there were plenty of deficiencies in his upbringing, which we are now trying to make up for later. It's not an impossible task, but it's a sensitive dog, we need to find the right method to gain his trust, but at the same time we need to make it clear to him that he is not the boss. It is looking for an active owner, it could even move to a house with a lot of activities.

HU·Show original

Hamar felveszi a ritmust a sétáltatatójával. Makacs, látszik, hogy a nevelésében bőven akadtak hiányok, amiket most utólag próbálunk pótolni. -------------------------------------ENGLISH VERSION BELOW-------------------------------------------

About Clyde

What life with Clyde looks like

Clyde is a large adult dog waiting at Rex Kutyaotthon in Budapest.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Initially fearful of men, requires patient training and socialization

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Clyde, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Clyde?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Rex Kutyaotthon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Clyde on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Clyde if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Rex Kutyaotthon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Clyde already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Clyde isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Rex Kutyaotthon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Clyde and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
