Cocoa

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Hi, I'm Cocoa and I am looking for a family to call my own. I am a very shy boy and the kennel is the only real home I have ever known. I have been here since I was just a tiny puppy. If you count it in human years that is 4 long years of waiting in my kennel. A few years ago I thought my big moment had finally arrived when someone adopted me! However on my very first day the big, loud outside world gave me a terrible fright and I panicked, ran away and ended up living on the streets all by myself for 6 months. The kind rescue people tried so hard to catch me but I was just too terrified to understand they wanted to help. Eventually they safely caught me and I came back to the comfort of my kennel. Even though I am fearful around new things I have a big heart. I love my dog friends. Playing with other dogs is my absolute favourite thing to do. I enjoy my daily walks. Exploring the world on a leash makes me really happy.

About Cocoa

What life with Cocoa looks like

Cocoa is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Louzanimales in Portugal.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cocoa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cocoa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Louzanimales handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cocoa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cocoa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Louzanimales will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cocoa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cocoa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Louzanimales early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cocoa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
