Cody

Border Collie · Male · Senior · 10 years

Cody male dog Groß: male Born: 2016 Size: Large Breed: Border Collie mixed breed Neutered: yes Cats: no Other dogs: only by mutual liking Children: no Sponsorship: desired All on the upswing Sometimes things happen that we simply don't understand, let alone the dog. Why was he returned? Rehomed as a dog with special needs, many and long conversations with the, yes so engaged, adopters. Neglect and no active, as discussed, following the rules, led to the clever fellow taking the reins. As a result, he came back. Currently, he counts among our long-term residents. An end is, of course, a new beginning, so Codys new start with us began anew. With all the facets that the 2016-born had in his repertoire. Cody often presented us with situations that required a rethink. Thanks to our dog trainers from the Rocket Dogs - Expedition Leipzig Hunde, we are on a good footing. Rituals and lots of positive reinforcement are extremely important. Cody has, like many of our shelter residents, his corners and edges, as well as being large and black. Protective, shelter-type, he is very obedient with people he trusts, who read him well and take all decisions for him. As a Border Collie mix, he gladly controls, which requires work. He has trouble with external stimuli like passing motorbikes and bicycles, but has now been explained by his Cody-understanding handler that he can and should take it easy. We are looking for people for this great, honest fellow who will make decisions for him and show him how to "take it easy." It is no witchcraft but clear communication between dog and human, which is why professional support is absolutely necessary. Cody needs honest people by his side who take his tentative early mischief with love, consistency, and without being impressed. Those who are ready to give Cody the chance at a new beginning, for which he is also worthy, would be the absolute jackpot. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

About Cody

What life with Cody looks like

Cody is a senior border collie dog waiting at Tierheim Delitzsch in Delitzsch.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cody, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cody?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Delitzsch handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cody on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cody if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Delitzsch will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cody already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cody isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Delitzsch early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cody and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
