Adopt Colin

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Description Our animal welfare workers report: Colin – a dog with a past is seeking people with hearts! For ten years, unable to walk, run, play freely, or lie soft and warm in a dog bed. For ten years, with the same view of a yard full of junk, never having known the great, wide world beyond this backyard. A stolen childhood, a stolen youth, from a stolen summer many were stolen, a stolen decade in captivity, under the harshest conditions – with what right? Why was no injustice charged, why did the neighbors look on, why did no one help? It’s always the same, increasingly bewildered questions from increasingly demoralized animal welfare workers, and it’s always the same indifferent shrugs from all witnesses. Colin had to spend his entire life on a chain until he grew old and gray. Only when his cruel owner died was he rescued and now lives in a private, Romanian animal shelter. His past has left its marks: Colin was (shortly after his rescue, in August 2025) still not really approachable. He needed time, a lot of patience, and very loving people who accepted him as he was – and who showed him that life held more than a chain and loneliness. The animal caretakers gradually and gently confronted him with human contact over half a year, establishing new, helpful routines for the once chained dog. By now (February 2026), Colin allows being touched, barks only occasionally, eats treats from the hand, and relaxes trustfully in the company of his animal caretakers. For Colin, we are seeking empathetic, dog-experienced people (or a generous foster spot), who can give him security and allow him to come to terms with his life at his own pace. Colin should only once in his life feel that beyond the reach of a five-meter-long chain and a concrete, small pen, there is a quiet, clean place where he can peacefully and relaxed enjoy his last phase of life. Who gives this special dog the chance to an appropriate retirement spot, to finally rest, and to experience a bit of security? 💕 Update03.02.2026 New Pictures and Videos Please note:

About Colin

What life with Colin looks like

Colin is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Colin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Colin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Colin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Colin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Colin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Colin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Colin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
