Colombino

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Colombino was found by the police wandering through a nearby town. He is only one year old and, like too many Malinois, he was acquired as a whim, without considering his needs, and abandoned when he was no longer small and manageable. He is an extremely intelligent dog for his breed, but also very energetic, sensitive, and easily overstimulated. With people, he is sociable, friendly, and very affectionate. He loves human contact, does not handle being left alone well, and constantly seeks proximity. He can be manipulated without issue. However, he is a teenager: he has little experience in the world and is still learning to regulate his emotions. On top of that, given that he struggles with confinement and lack of activity, stress overwhelms him. For the time being, the presence of other dogs or other animals activates him too much and he does not know how to manage it, which is normal in young dogs of this breed without prior training. The energy he accumulates also does not facilitate that regulation. We are looking for an active and committed family who can offer him: Long walks and regular physical and mental activity Clear routines and consistent boundaries, as any young dog needs Socialization that progresses with the help of an educator Who does not leave him alone for too long, especially at first Malinois are incredibly capable dogs with a huge potential, but also among the most complex. They are not a trend; they need guidance and work. If you have experience with the breed or with high-energy dogs and are looking for a companion eager to learn and grow by your side, Colombino could become an exceptional dog. Please think it over carefully: he deserves a family that understands his needs and is willing to commit to them. If you have doubts, write to us. Leishmania analysis negative. Already neutered. 4 Idexx test (Ehrlichia, Heartworm, Anaplasma, and borrelia) negative.

Test 4 Idexx (ehrlichia, filaria, anaplasma y borrelia) negativo. Mostrar más de su historia Mostrar menos

About Colombino

What life with Colombino looks like

Colombino is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at ALBA Protectora Madrid in Madrid.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Colombino, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Colombino?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ALBA Protectora Madrid handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Colombino on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Colombino if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ALBA Protectora Madrid will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Colombino already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Colombino isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ALBA Protectora Madrid early rather than rehoming privately; they know Colombino and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
