adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Colombo has found a home! His story: Cluj, Romania. This cute scruffy bear is named Colombo. Colombo came to us, like many other dogs, unfortunately without a history. The only thing we know is that Colombo lived for a time with two other large dogs on the streets of Chinteni. But there, the dogs were not well-liked by the residents. The dog catchers were informed to catch them. The wife of the mayor was already in the process of making a contract with a culling station, but one of our employees convinced her to invest the money in sterilizations instead of catching the dogs. However, under the condition that we take the dogs off the streets to stop the complaints from the people. So the three came to us. Now we hope to find each of the trio a home soon. Colombo is approximately 3.5 years old and brings a substantial height of 65 cm at the shoulder and a length of 75 cm. The large male dog has a very friendly character and is well-socialized. So he shows himself to be compatible with other dogs and is also open to humans. It is to be assumed that Colombo has only known life on the streets so far. Life in a home and with a family is something he still needs to learn. So one should be prepared to start from scratch with Colombo and show and explain to him step by step what belongs to a dog life. A visit to a dog training class that works with positive reinforcement can be supportive in this learning process and help Colombo and his humans to grow into a great team. Additionally, Colombo will have contact with fellow animals and can play and play with them. This will surely bring him a lot of joy, just like long walks and cuddle sessions with his humans! Maybe his humans also have a large garden where the big one can run around and bask in the sun? He would be very happy about that. We cannot rule out that Colombo brings herding qualities. Therefore, we are looking for an experienced home for him that has experience with these qualities or is willing to deal with them and above all brings the optimal conditions. Herding dogs are not city dogs. They should rather live in the countryside, a garden would be great and little or no visitors or changing people. They are also not suitable for taking to the office. Herding dogs bring great qualities. People who already have experience with herding dogs do not want any other breeds, as they, despite their thick skulls, are very loyal and faithful companions. Our Colombo is ready to travel from May. He travels neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for fleas to his new home and of course has his EU pet passport in his luggage. He is entitled to travel. Will you give Colombo his ticket to happiness? Many thanks, Sunny W.! You have named Colombo!

Vielen Dank Sunny W.! Du hast Colombo seinen Namen geschenkt!

About Colombo

What life with Colombo looks like

Colombo is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Colombo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Colombo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Colombo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Colombo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Colombo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Colombo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Colombo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
