Cora

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Cora has been in the care of ArcoNatura since early January 2023. This little sweet with the funny caramel spots around her friendly face is a Podenco mix girl, but she did not come from a hunter like most of her fellow animals. Cora lived with a very poor family in a hut. The owners had barely enough energy to take care of themselves, and the delicate and affectionate female dog was often simply forgotten and waited for days for food and affection. An animal rescuer became aware of Cora's fate and asked her owners if they would be willing to give up their pet to give this lovely Podenco lady a chance at a better home - and so Cora came into the hands of our partners. Cora was a bit shy during the first days in the animal shelter and didn't quite know how to deal with the unfamiliar people, smells and noises. But each day the now very lovable and cuddly one-and-a-half-year-old (as of 01/2023) princess thawed more and now seeks contact with the volunteers on her own. When visitors come, our red-nosed one remains rather reserved, which of course does not increase her chances of being adopted in Spain. Few people take the time to get to know our quiet and unobtrusive charges better, yet it is precisely in the second and third rows that true treasures are hidden. Cora is a balanced and loving nature, who loves to go for walks and walks very nicely on a leash. She is gentle, calm and clingy, but can now also play with other young dogs in the yard and test out her as yet undiscovered athletic abilities. We wish this extraordinary female dog a understanding, fun and active family, who can offer our little caramel candy a nice, active life - and in the winter pushes the dog bed right in front of the heater and wants to provide enough blankets and cushions for the typical Podenco sofa cushion. Cora is a real treasure, and we are already looking forward to finding out who claims this treasure for themselves.

DE·Show original

About Cora

What life with Cora looks like

Cora is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cora, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cora?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cora on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cora if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cora already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cora isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cora and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
