Cosmo &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Cosmo was a typical so-called Covid dog, who served as a form of entertainment for a certain period, but was then given up due to time constraints and overburdening. He was passed around and did not have an easy time. He eventually landed in the animal shelter, where the situation was unfortunately very distressing for him. After a very long wait, he was finally allowed to move into a new home. Unfortunately, he was given up again after almost a quarter of a year. Although he got along well with people, he had problems with the second dog. The two could not get along and the tense situation was only frustrating for Cosmo, the only dog, and the family with children. After further waiting, he finally found a person who was a perfect match. They got to know each other, went for walks together several times, and built a great relationship. The adoption was actually almost finalized, but the person received an unexpected serious health diagnosis, which means that Cosmo cannot move to a new home. Cosmo needs people with a lot of dog experience, ideally a single person without young children and other pets. He needs a handler who can consistently lead him and support his journey forward. Cosmo is people-oriented, alert, and brings a good dose of energy, but he is NOT an easy-to-train dog. He needs people who can show him patience and understanding and walk through life with him as a four-legged companion. Cosmo is vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for rehoming. About Cosmo &#8211

What life with Cosmo &#8211 looks like

Cosmo &#8211 is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzbund Basel Regional.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cosmo &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cosmo &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzbund Basel Regional handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cosmo &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cosmo &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzbund Basel Regional will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cosmo &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cosmo &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzbund Basel Regional early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cosmo &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
