Flop &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Since the former owner failed to properly train the Kangal giant, he was soon overwhelmed with husbandry. Flop is a gentle, friendly giant towards people and other dogs. As he has enjoyed all freedoms until now, terms like leash walking or general dog ABC were initially foreign to Flop. Since he arrived at our shelter, we have worked extensively with him, and his basic obedience has significantly improved. We are looking for new, suitable owners for Flop who have enough patience and consistency to continue working on his basic obedience so that he becomes a pleasant family member. The new home should be in a rural area and have an escape-proof, fenced yard. The Kangal, as a herding dog, is definitely not an beginner dog and will not be rehomed to a first-time dog owner. Flop is vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered before rehomed. If you are interested in our dogs and would like to meet them informally, please apply using the button below, and we will contact you as soon as possible.

About Flop &#8211

What life with Flop &#8211 looks like

Flop &#8211 is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzbund Basel Regional.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Flop &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Flop &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzbund Basel Regional handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Flop &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Flop &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzbund Basel Regional will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Flop &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Flop &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzbund Basel Regional early rather than rehoming privately; they know Flop &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
