Criollo

Belgian Malinois · Male · Young · 1 year

Criollo - a young Malinois will finally flourish in the right home. Criollo no longer lives in the animal shelter, but with a foster family in Spain. This step was extremely important for him - because like many young Malinois, Criollo suffered particularly in the animal shelter due to the lack of exercise, stimulation and individual attention. With the foster family, Criollo shows himself as a friendly, playful and people-oriented young dog. He enjoys shared activities, plays happily and is socially compatible with other dogs. In everyday life, he gives a calm and attentive impression: he handles walks easily, copes well with new environments and is already familiar with car rides. All of this shows what potential he has - if he receives the attention he deserves. Despite these positive impressions, it still holds true: we do not know Criollo's background. Potential adopters should be prepared that he still needs to learn more in a permanent home and that acclimatization, training and building a relationship take time. Criollo is a Malinois and thus a dog with very clear breed-specific needs. Malinois are among the most intelligent and hardworking dogs. They need not only exercise, but above all mental stimulation, clear rules, reliability and people who are willing to take responsibility. A Malinois is not a dog for the sidelines, but a partner who needs leadership, structure and joint work to lead a balanced and happy dog life. We are looking for people with dog experience for Criollo, ideally breed experienced or willing to deal intensively with the demands of this special breed. Anyone who consciously takes on this challenge will get a young dog with great potential - eager to learn, social and ready to bond closely with his humans. Criollo has taken the step out of the animal shelter for now. What he still needs is only what really matters: a permanent home with people who know what they are getting into and find joy in it. About Criollo

What life with Criollo looks like

Criollo is a young adult belgian malinois dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Criollo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Criollo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Criollo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Criollo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Criollo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Criollo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Criollo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
