Adopt CUBA

Pit Bull Terrier · Female · Adult · 7 years

A CUBA was rescued from a municipal dog shelter. We know she was previously found on the street. She has been in a F.A.T. (Temporary Foster Care Family) for 3 months and has proven to be a fantastic dog! Despite the myth about Pitbulls, CUBA is a very gentle dog. She lives with many small and large dogs, males and females, and gets along well with all of them. She doesn't get jealous, doesn't guard her food. She has never been involved in any fight. She is really a sweetie. It's always tempting to kiss her because she is so soft. CUBA loves walking on a leash, she behaves so well. She is really obedient. She also loves riding in the car! She has been in contact with sheep. She doesn't react. With cats, she showed no aggression, only curiosity, but we never risked a closer contact. CUBA has Furunculosis. It is a deep pyoderma. She takes one capsule of cyclosporine per day. It is a chronic condition, so there are ups and downs, but it is perfectly manageable.

About CUBA

What life with CUBA looks like

CUBA is a large adult pit bull terrier dog waiting at O Cantinho da Milu in Lisbon.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Has Furunculosis (deep pyoderma), chronic skin condition requiring daily cyclosporine medication

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting CUBA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about CUBA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. O Cantinho da Milu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw CUBA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt CUBA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — O Cantinho da Milu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is CUBA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if CUBA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with O Cantinho da Milu early rather than rehoming privately; they know CUBA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
