Adopt Camuka

Pit Bull Terrier · Male · Adult · 8 years

shoulder height: 52 cm Camuka is a friendly dog who seeks the company of people. He cuddles a lot and enjoys being hugged. In general, Camuka is a great dog and a loyal friend. He gets along with most fellow animals, knows basic commands and walks well on a leash. However, this was not always the case. Previously, Camuka had a strong urge to chase everything and everyone (e.g. running cats). If this urge was stopped, he would become agitated and jump up at the person at the other end of the leash. Nothing ever happened, but Camuka was surrendered to the camp "Küstenköter", where he was intensively trained. Camuka was very eager to learn and showed himself as a model student. With calm and consistent guidance, he learned to better tolerate frustration and calm down more quickly. If he respects his human, he is easily accessible from any situation. We wish for Camuka a loving family that lives more in a rural or quiet area. Young children should not be present. Important information: Since the beginning of August 2022, the dog owner regulation is being replaced by a new one. Breeds, to which also Camuka belongs, are no longer generally classified as dangerous. Consequently, the behavioral assessment and the required certificate of competence will no longer be required. A corresponding certificate can be obtained for Camuka in the short term. We wish for Camuka a loving forever home, but we can also imagine a foster home for him.

03841 - 79 01 79

About Camuka

What life with Camuka looks like

Camuka is a large adult pit bull terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Dorf Mecklenburg in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Camuka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Camuka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Dorf Mecklenburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Camuka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Camuka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Dorf Mecklenburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Camuka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Camuka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Dorf Mecklenburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Camuka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
