Curro &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Curro is a big dog—actually, a really, really big dog. And because there's so much space in such a big dog, he also has a super big heart and a huge sunny disposition. Our almost one-year-old (as of July 2024) charmer wandered alone through a residential area. Due to his open and loving nature being written all over his face, kind people found him quickly, securing him regular meals—and soon after, they opened their doors so Curro wouldn't have to sleep on the street anymore. Unfortunately, they can't keep the gentle giant forever, but they ensure that the lovable teenager has a roof over his head and gets his daily cuddles, until a real family falls in love with the wonderful heartbreaker. Curro is undoubtedly a Mastin mix and has Herd Guard dog blood. We don't want to hide that life with a Herding Shorthair (Herdshorthaar) is different from other breeds, and it's a big responsibility to give one of these majestic giants a home. But a Spanish Mastin is already much more approachable than his Eastern European or Turkish relatives, and Curro has the wonderful empathy and ability to fully trust his human from a Mastin, but he is not a born protector and has never shown any inclination to dominate or defend anything or anyone, despite his age. Nevertheless, Curro still needs guidance and training, best with the help of breed-experienced trainers, but he is one of our giants that we would also give to beginners without a guilty conscience—provided they are ready to learn with and from him. Curro lives in his foster family with cats, he loves children, he's playful, gets along well with other dogs, and nothing brings him more joy than cuddling and snuggling with his two- and four-legged friends. You have a sense of humor and patience, don't drive a small car, have at least a garden (or live in the countryside), are ready to share your sofa with an athletic gentleman, have time, and are looking forward to lots of fun with an XL teddy bear? We look forward to hearing from you soon!

About Curro &#8211

What life with Curro &#8211 looks like

Curro &#8211 is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Curro &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Curro &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Curro &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Curro &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Curro &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Curro &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Curro &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
