>>> Dagobert is not at the animal shelter; instead, he’s in private foster care in 3100 St. Pölten. <<<Hello, my name is Dagobert. I ended up at the animal shelter following an official intake procedure. I was quickly moved to a foster home, but I’m still looking for my forever home! I’m a very friendly dog who becomes quite cuddly with people I trust. As is typical for my breed, I’m rather reserved around strangers, but I quickly make friends during walks together. I let myself be brushed easily, as my coat requires intensive grooming. I walk nicely on a leash, travel comfortably by car, get along well with most other dogs, and am familiar with cats. At my foster home, I’m great at being left alone. I love being outdoors and going for walks, and I also enjoy spending time in the garden or relaxing with my favorite person on the lawn. Unfortunately, I have some health issues related to my musculoskeletal system. I need pain medication, joint supplements, and moderate exercise. Right now, I’m still a bit overweight and under-muscled, but I’m getting stronger every day. I can’t yet jump into the car, but I obediently step up the ramp. Unfortunately, my fur had become matted down to the skin and had to be shaved off; from now on, I’ll need to be brushed several times a week to prevent matting from happening again. I’m looking for a ground-floor home with a garden, ideally with loving people—perhaps even seniors—who either already have experience with this breed or have taken the time to learn about it thoroughly. It’s fine if you already have other pets, but children should have passed their toddler years. Would you like to give me a loving home? Please get in touch! Your Dagobert

Bitte melde dich!Dein Dagobert

About Dagobert

What life with Dagobert looks like

Dagobert is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein St. Pölten in St. Pölten.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dagobert, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dagobert?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein St. Pölten handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dagobert on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dagobert if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein St. Pölten will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dagobert already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dagobert isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein St. Pölten early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dagobert and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
