Adopt Daisy

Border Collie · Female · Senior · 14 years

Daisy is a Border Collie lady in the best of ages, seeking a forever home with experienced dog people, where she can grow old. She has already made two attempts to lead a happy and fulfilling dog life, both of which failed, and now she is in the animal shelter, which greatly overwhelms this sensitive herding dog and her delicate nervous system. She finds it very difficult to find peace in the animal shelter. Daisy is clingy to her humans, sometimes even overbearing, which results from the fact that she has not yet experienced a healthy, functioning human-dog relationship. She feels responsible for the system in which she lives, and she controls it, so she occasionally thinks she must keep strangers away, which she shows and expresses with threatening gestures. For her trusted people, Daisy is well-behaved, and you can tell she is relieved to hand over the responsibility, as she seemed very lost and overwhelmed when she first came to the animal shelter. She still has difficulties with other animals and especially with canine communication; she was not given proper socialization and was kept away from other dogs most of the time, which led to deficiencies in dealing with them. Despite that, one should not give up on her and help Daisy learn more about dogs and how to interact with them. Anyone who is experienced with dogs and willing to continue learning about themselves and dog ownership, who is calm and at ease, who is ready to accept a dog as an individual, will get along well with Daisy. We envision a household for this dog lady with two adults in a rural area, without other animals, and without too much noise or visitors. Daisy is fit and healthy and would enjoy long walks with her people.

About Daisy

What life with Daisy looks like

Daisy is a senior border collie dog waiting at BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Daisy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Daisy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Daisy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Daisy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Daisy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Daisy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Daisy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
