Daktyl

Male · Senior · 10 years

Daktyl is a guy whose personality you keep discovering step by step. Every walk and every moment in the kennel show another piece of his character. However, it's already clear that there's a huge potential in him to become a wonderful companion. He feels great on walks. He likes movement and exploring the area, and with his person he could travel really far. He walks beautifully on a leash, doesn't pull towards other dogs, and there's no chaos or nervousness in him. He focuses on his olfactory tasks, explores the world with engagement, marks his presence, checks every bush. He's like a little explorer who finds joy in simple things. Squeaky toys aren't yet his favorite part of the wardrobe, but that's probably just a matter of getting used to them. He handles the harness perfectly, so with a bit of patience he will surely come to love squeaky toys as well. In the kennel, as soon as we enter, he immediately runs over, greets enthusiastically and almost jumps onto your knees. He's not yet the type of couch cuddler who lies for hours snuggled up to a person. He simply greatly enjoys being present and having contact. His behavior shows joy and curiosity, but he definitely needs time to get to know someone and trust them. This may stem from difficult experiences, because tests done at the animal shelter showed multiple gunshot wounds in Daktyl's body, including in the head, so it's no wonder he may have some fears about people. Daktyl is a small, energetic low-to-the-ground dog with a spark in his eye. He needs a caregiver who gives him time, shows him the world and allows him to continue opening up. In return, you'll get a loyal walking companion and a dog who will greet you each day with the same sincere joy. Maybe it's you who will show Daktyl what a real home is?

PL·Show original

About Daktyl

What life with Daktyl looks like

Daktyl is a small senior dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: History of trauma - has shotgun pellets in body including head, may need patience building trust with humans

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Daktyl, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Daktyl?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Daktyl on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Daktyl if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Daktyl already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Daktyl isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Daktyl and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
