DONATO

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 7 months

Danilo and Donato, 5 months old (20/03/26), medium/large breed, abandoned under a horse trough, are looking for a home. Danilo was first spotted miles away from where he was later found with his brother. He would move in search of food and water, then return to his brother Donato, regurgitating what little food he could find in the countryside to feed him. Volunteers found them together, exhausted from hunger and thirst. Donato was burned and injured, he no longer had the head of his femur, he was operated on and is recovering well, he may limp for the rest of his life and that scar will never go away, but his strength, his courage and his joy of life show us that love and happiness do not need perfect 4 legs, just a big heart. Danilo saved his brother, he is a hero, he has a huge, selfless and joyful heart and both deserve a wonderful new life! ☑️ will be given with a regular adoption form, vaccinated, microchipped. ☑️ willingness to post-adoption visits. ☑️ mandatory sterilization.

About DONATO

What life with DONATO looks like

DONATO is a large puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Dimensione Animale Bergamo in Italy.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting DONATO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about DONATO?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dimensione Animale Bergamo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw DONATO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt DONATO if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dimensione Animale Bergamo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is DONATO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if DONATO isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dimensione Animale Bergamo early rather than rehoming privately; they know DONATO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
