Adopt Danny

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Danny is a neutered Bracken mix male dog born on 25.05.2018. He loves to take a nap in his basket indoors or lie on his pillow or take a sunbath in the garden. The housecats let him be and live in peace. He has grown up with our children. He sometimes howls when one of the children cries. Danny can stay alone at home for long periods. He adjusts to different times for his walk rounds. He does not like dog encounters on the leash, especially if the other dogs are not comfortable with it, and will then become agitated, needing to be steered away and told no. Danny also needs permission to run freely on the grass without a leash, without constantly being by his human’s side, as he has a certain radius where he occasionally checks in if he’s distracted by something. When his human is not in sight, he looks for their proximity again. He cannot resist a bunny chase but will come back on a whistle signal, for him it’s all about having a good run. Dog encounters without leashes can be tense at first, but are generally manageable. Otherwise, he is friendly and seeks playmates. Leckerlis, toys, and chew toys are not shared with other fellow animals. In the dark, he is very distant from others and more focused on his human. Dog encounters with German Shepherds, Boxers, English Bulldogs, and Rottweilers are already very negatively charged from the start. We suspect that this body language is not immediately visible. Danny is sometimes a nervous or sensitive guy who is very focused on the feelings and emotions of his family. Therefore, we wish for a calm, guiding hand with a healthy, loving firmness and consistency. It would be ideal to have no young children or other pets in the household, but an introduction with a fellow animal is possible. Meet and greet: Possible by private appointment, with multiple visits, and a kennel fee (Euskirchen).

About Danny

What life with Danny looks like

Danny is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Eifeltierheim Altrich in Altrich.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Danny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Danny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Eifeltierheim Altrich handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Danny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Danny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Eifeltierheim Altrich will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Danny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Danny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Eifeltierheim Altrich early rather than rehoming privately; they know Danny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
