Darby

Meet Darby! Darby is a friendly Jindo-mix girl who came to the shelter in March 2023. When she was found, she was still wearing a leash—so we hoped her owner would come looking for her... but unfortunately, Darby didn't have any luck. This lovely lady is now searching for a loving family who will forever welcome her into their hearts! Darby loves people and absolutely adores going for walks! She gets incredibly excited every time someone stops by her kennel to say hello—and she’s a real cuddlebug! Unfortunately, life in the shelter is very stressful for an active dog like Darby, as she’s only allowed outside briefly about once a month. Without sufficient mental stimulation, she was once bitten by her kennel mate (which is why she wears a bandage in some photos)—simply because she was too excited. Darby would be overjoyed to find a home where she receives the attention, exercise, and love that every good girl like her deserves. We’d like to point out that if you’re interested in this dog, we recommend learning more about the breed beforehand. However, please keep in mind that not all breed-specific traits necessarily apply to every individual dog, and many of our dogs are mixed breeds. Take the Jindo, for example: This breed is often described as having a strong hunting instinct. Yet all of our Jindos so far have gotten along wonderfully with house cats. Hunting instincts can vary greatly from dog to dog. You can find more information on this topic in our FAQ section on our website. Our dogs have been through a long journey and need time to settle into their new homes. Especially in the early stages, they may be shy, uncertain, or anxious. Please be aware of this and allow plenty of time and patience so that the dog can gradually build trust at its own pace. It will repay you with all its heart, and over time, it could become a loyal companion for life.

Lerne Darby kennen!

About Darby

What life with Darby looks like

Darby is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at German Hands meet Korean Paws e.V. in Ebstorf.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Darby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Darby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. German Hands meet Korean Paws e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Darby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Darby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — German Hands meet Korean Paws e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Darby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Darby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with German Hands meet Korean Paws e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Darby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
