Luca

Mixed Breed Cat · Male · Kitten · 3 months

Daria, Emilio, and Luca were brought to us together with their mom as stray kittens. Upon arrival, all three kittens were suffering from severe conjunctivitis. Emilio additionally had a painful lesion on his tongue. He was particularly hard hit by the calicivirus, which left cloudiness in his eyes—treatment for this is currently underway. Meanwhile, the little family is doing much better. Each of the three kittens has developed its own distinct personality. Emilio is the most affectionate of the siblings. Despite numerous veterinary treatments, he has grown into a playful, curious, and incredibly funny tomcat. He darts around the room full of energy, constantly seeking closeness with people—just like his mom. Luca’s personality lies somewhere between his siblings’. He’s playful and people-oriented, but he needs a brief moment to warm up when faced with new situations or unfamiliar people. Once he’s gained trust, however, he reveals himself as an upbeat and cuddly little tomcat. Daria is the family’s little wild one. At first, she prefers to keep her distance and may even hiss or leap away if something makes her uneasy. But with a bit of patience—and especially during playtime—she shows her cheerful side. Then she transforms into a lively, funny little lady cat whose quirky ideas never fail to bring a smile to your face. The three are each looking for a loving home with patient people who enjoy accompanying young cats on their journey toward adulthood. Ideally, they’d find a home in a rural setting where, after they’ve settled in, they can explore nature. Since kittens shouldn’t be raised alone, they’ll only be placed with an already existing, suitable young cat or together with one of their siblings.

DE·Show original

About Luca

What life with Luca looks like

Luca is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed cat cat waiting at Zürcher Tierschutz in Zürich.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luca, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luca?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Zürcher Tierschutz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luca on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luca if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Zürcher Tierschutz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luca already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luca isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Zürcher Tierschutz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luca and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
