Darla has this special look that is curious, gentle and a little cheeky at the same time – as if she is already thinking about her next adventure. Born on 04.05.2026, the little mouse is ready to travel to her forever home in September. Like Darla and her siblings, we don't know how they came into the world and why nobody wanted to keep them. Probably the puppies were given up shortly after their birth in an animal shelter. The employees there were very worried that the little ones would not have a chance without intensive care. That's why they asked our animal welfare partner Kristina for help. Kristina runs her own animal shelter in Croatia – and didn't hesitate for a second. She took all the puppies in, raised them lovingly and gave them the start in life that every puppy deserves. Today the little mice are healthy, lively and ready to make their own families happy. Darla is probably a hunting dog mix. This means that later she will probably not only be a loyal companion, but also an enthusiastic little sniffer. Now her everyday life is first and foremost about the really important puppy tasks: playing with her siblings, discovering the world, examining leaves, cuddling extensively and falling into the land of puppy dreams completely exhausted after every adventure. When Darla grows up, she will be happy with people who like to be active with her. Sniffing, tracking, dummy training, exciting walks or other joint activities will use her clever head and her fine nose wonderfully and will certainly ensure sparkling dog eyes. Darla is looking for people with heart, patience and humor. People who show her how beautiful a sheltered dog life can be and who want to go through thick and thin with her. Maybe Darla is already waiting for you – so that from a little puppy with big dreams your best friend for life will soon become. 🤎🐾 .fusion-body .fusion-button Interest in an adoption? About Darla

What life with Darla looks like

Darla is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Nordic Strays e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Darla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Darla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Nordic Strays e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Darla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Darla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Nordic Strays e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Darla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Darla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Nordic Strays e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Darla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
